Self-Publishing Your Way to Internet Success

By Shelley Lowery

Ebooks or Electronic books are self-contained "executable"
files of HTML. This HTML may be a web site you've created or
HTML you've specifically prepared to be compiled into a
downloadable .exe file for distribution. When downloaded,
this file will self install on your clients desktop.

Ebooks are completely interactive with the Internet and can
contain live links, graphics, forms, JavaScript, embedded
video, can be protected via password/userid, search
capabilities and more. This self-contained executable file
can be distributed in a number of ways including; CD, floppy
disk, download, etc.

With the rising popularity of the Internet, there is
absolutely no better time than right now to develop your
own informational product. Not only is there no better time,
but it has never been any easier for anyone to develop and
sell their own products.

Information is the number one best-selling product on the
Internet. There are literally hundreds of Internet
entrepreneurs quietly making a fortune simply by selling
information.

Why are ebooks so popular? Internet users have a sincere
desire to learn and want the information right now. They
don't want to wait a week or two for the information to
arrive. Ebooks provide your potential customers with instant
gratification. As soon as they pay for their order, they
can have immediate access to the information they desire.

The first step in creating your product is to decide upon a
subject. Select a subject in which you have a great deal of
knowledge. The knowledge you have within your own mind is
extremely valuable. Simply write about what you know and
teach others how to do the same thing. It's that simple.

Creating an Outline

The easiest way to begin writing is to create an outline.
Begin your outline with an opening statement or Introduction
followed by a Foreword. Your opening statement might tell
your readers a little bit about what they are going to learn
or may be a statement in regard to the subject matter. Your
Foreword might include information in regard to who you are,
your credentials, copyrights, and what you want your readers
to learn.

Your next step will be to either create a Table of Contents
or go directly into creating your Chapter Titles. If you're
writing your information in the form of a how-to manual, you
may want to use a Table of Contents. This will enable your
readers to quickly locate important information. If you're
writing your information in the form of a book, then you can
leave out the Table of Contents and simply use Chapter
Titles.

Whether you're using a Table of Contents or Chapter Titles,
write your titles so that when they're read, they tell the
story. In other words, when you scan your titles they will
give you a step by step description of what your information
is all about.

Finally, at the bottom of your outline, wrap everything up
by including a closing statement.

Once you've completed your outline you can begin filling in
the spaces. Write your text in small blocks and leave a
space between your paragraphs. Select a font that is easy to
read and use black text on a white background. In addition,
write in an everyday language that everyone can understand.

Designing Your Interface

Your ebook interface MUST look professional. No matter how
good your information is, if your ebook doesn't look
professional, its perceived value will be low. Ultimately
costing you sales.

Design your ebook to be easily navigated and make sure you
include navigational graphics within each page.

In addition, your ebook should include all of the following:

• Introduction
• Table of Contents
• Foreword
• Copyrights
• About page

Your first step in designing your ebook will be to turn your
text into HTML. Simply divide your text into sections such
as, Introduction, Table of Contents, Chapters, etc., and
create a web page for each.

You can include graphics, live links, and almost everything
that HTML 4.0 supports.

Delivering Your Information

In order to deliver your information to your customers,
you'll need to compress it into a downloadable file, better
known as an ebook. There are different types of compilation
methods however, for this example we will focus on HTML
compiled ebooks.

Selecting a Compiler

Although there are many ebook compilers available on the
Internet, please keep in mind, they are just that -- HTML
compilers. What this means is that they will only compile
files that you've already created within another program,
such as an HTML editor. This will involve creating your
pages within an HTML editor and then importing your files
into an HTML compiler to create your ebook.

However, there is one software program that will enable you
to create your entire ebook -- from start to finish and
that's eBook Starter:

Taking Orders

In order for you to begin taking orders for your ebook,
you'll need to have the ability to accept credit cards.
Unless you'd like to get your own merchant account, the best
way to accept credit cards is to use an online service. The
best service I've found is ClickBank. This company will
enable you to accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express,
Discover, Eurocard, Visa-Debit, MasterCard-Debit, and
Novus cards. There are no monthly fees; however they charge
a small fee for each sale you make.

The great thing about this company is that over 60,000 affiliates
can choose to sell your products for you. ClickBank enables any
web seller to automatically pay sales commissions to
affiliates. Clickbank will bill your customers, pay you, and
pay your affiliates a commission. In other words, they'll
run your entire affiliate program for you.

There is absolutely no reason why you can't create your own
informational product. Think about it... Think about some
special talent you may have or knowledge you could share and
write about. Creating your own product will be one of the
best business decisions you'll ever make.

Developing Your Own In-Demand Product

By Shelley Lowery

Developing your own product to market on the Internet isn't
as difficult as you may think. Today's technology has opened
a whole New World of opportunity for even the smallest
home-based business owner. The knowledge you have within your
own mind is all you'll need to develop a successful product.

Everybody is good at something. You don't have to be a
Rocket Scientist in order to create your own product. If
that were the case, most of us would fail. Maybe you have a
special talent or some specialized knowledge. Use this
knowledge to create a product.

Researching

Before you begin developing your product, make sure you've
done your homework. Research the market to determine exactly
what people want and develop your product accordingly. If
your product doesn't have a market, it won't be successful.

Your product should not only fill a void, but should also be
unique. The less competition you have, the better. If you
enter a market in which you're competing against hundreds of
other products similar to yours, your chance of success will
be minimal. Develop a high-quality product that fills a void
and provides people with exactly what they want.

Another consideration of great importance is your product's
delivery method. The best form of product delivery on the
Internet is automated. Internet users want the product they
order as soon as their purchase is complete. This can be
accomplished in a number of ways depending upon the type of
product. For example, if your product is software or
information, it can reside on your server and be instantly
downloaded via a link.

Not only does instant product delivery benefit your
customer, but it will also benefit you. By completely
automating your product's ordering and delivery process, you
can spend your time performing more important tasks, such as
making more sales.

Brain Storming

The most difficult part of creating your own product is
deciding upon the product itself. First of all, you'll need
to decide what type of product you would like to develop.

Two of the most popular are:

• Software
• Information

Once you have determined the type, then you can focus your
attention on the subject matter.

If you would like to develop a software program, but aren't
capable of writing it yourself, consider hiring a
professional. If you would be interested in developing a
desktop software program, simply visit a Search Engine and
search for "software developers." If you would like to
develop a software that resides on a server, search for
"scripting services." Although this type of product will be
the most expensive to develop, it can be very profitable.

Information is not only one of the biggest sellers online,
but it is also the most inexpensive to develop. Your
information can be in the form of a report, ebook or
whatever you'd like.

Internet users are starving for information, as that is what
the Internet is all about. They have a sincere desire to
learn and will search for the information they desire. The
best form of information is "how-to" information that
teaches or informs in regard to a specific subject. Even if
the subject is very unique, the Internet is a great market
for even the most niche products.

Don't think you have anything to write about? Think again.
Your life experiences alone could be worth a fortune.

There are literally thousands of highly targeted, untapped
niche markets that could make you a fortune.

Here are a few subjects to give you some ideas:

Packaging Your Information

Until now, there really wasn't much of a choice for
packaging information. Let's take a look at the
possibilities...

Text - Can be opened and viewed on any computer platform.
This format produces the smallest file size; however, it is
very plain and unprofessional. You cannot include any
images, you must use the same font style and size throughout
your document and cannot use any special text formatting,
such as bold and italics. Not a good choice for selling
information products.

HTML - Provides the greatest amount of customizations. This
format supports any technology used within a web page. It
doesn't require any special viewers, as it relies on the
Internet Explorer browser to display the content. However,
it is very insecure and unorganized, as you must distribute
each individual file (files are not compiled into one file
format for distribution), which will cause confusion, as
your user will have to locate the proper file to begin
reading your information.

DOC (Microsoft Word Documents) - Provides a great deal of
customization options, including image formatting, text
formatting, font colors and font styles. However, the DOC
file sizes can be very large. In addition, as not all of
your customers will have Microsoft Word installed on their
computer, your document may not display properly.

PDF (Adobe Acrobat) - Provides a great way to compress files
created in a variety of different programs, such as word
processing programs, spreadsheet programs, etc. However,
users are required to download and install a special viewer.
In addition, you are very limited on creativity, as your
information will be displayed as it is in a word processor.
In addition, the security options are very limited.

As HTML provides you with the greatest amount of
customizations, it seems this is the best format. HTML
ebooks are completely interactive with the Internet and can
be as simple or dynamic as you'd like. Your projects can
contain live links, graphics, forms, JavaScript, embedded
video, and more. You can easily create a dynamic
presentation utilizing the latest technology.

Sounds great, doesn't it?

Well, it is except for the packaging issue. How will you get
your files to your customers? You certainly can't distribute
your raw HTML files to your customers -- that certainly
wouldn't be very professional. The good news is ... there
are software programs available on the Internet that will
compress all of your files into one stand-alone file you can
distribute to your customers. This software program is known
as an HTML compiler.

HTML compilers are great and provide a wonderful solution
for packaging HTML files. However, what most people new to
electronic publishing don't realize is that these software
programs won't enable you to 'create' your ebooks -- they
will only compile files that you've already created within
another program, such as an HTML editor.

What this means is that you would need to create your pages
within an HTML editor and then import them into an HTML
compiler to create your ebook file.

However, there is one software program that will enable you
to create your entire ebook -- from start to finish and
that's eBook Starter:
http://ClickBankNickname.wsnet.hop.clickbank.net/

Delivering Your Ebook to Your Customers

Once you've created your ebook and you're ready to upload it
to your server, simply create a new directory where you store
your HTML files. You can name the directory 'ebooks' or
whatever you'd like. Upload your ebook in binary mode.

To create a download link on your web site, most servers will
allow you to simply link to the address:

http://www.yourdomain.com/ebooks/ebook.exe

If this method of linking doesn't work for you, contact your
server administrator for assistance.

Summary

Developing your own product is an essential part of your
online success. Take your time and make sure you do your
homework before you begin. No matter what product you
develop, quality is of the utmost importance.

If you develop a quality product that fills a void and
provides Internet users with exactly what they want, your
product will be a success.

Information -- The 'Perfect' Online Product

By Shelley Lowery

If you're looking for a great way to get started in Internet
marketing, selling information may be your answer.

The Internet has literally become the information super
highway, as millions upon millions of people logon each day
in search of the information they desire -- not just any
type of information -- they're searching for solutions! They
want to improve their health, improve their love life,
improve their finances -- the list goes on and on...

That's what makes information products, such as ebooks,
reports, etc., so appealing. They provide people with the
information they desire, almost instantly, as they can be
purchased and downloaded within a matter of minutes.

Not only do information products provide your readers with
instant gratification, but they are also the 'perfect'
product for you, as they are one of the cheapest and easiest
products you can create. What's more, the profit margin is
phenomenal -- once you purchase a packaging software, you
can sell your product an unlimited number of times with...

• No additional development costs
• No inventory
• No packaging charges
• No shipping charges and
• No hassle...

Information is the number one best-selling product on the
Internet. There are literally hundreds of Internet
entrepreneurs quietly making a fortune simply by selling
information. How? By developing in-demand information
products and delivering them instantly and automatically
over the Internet.

What is an Ebook?

Although there are several ebook format options, we will be
focusing on HTML compiled ebooks.

Ebooks or electronic books are self-contained files of HTML.
This HTML may be a web site you've created or HTML you've
specifically prepared to be compiled into a downloadable EXE
file for distribution. When downloaded, the file will
self-install on your customers' desktop.

This EXE file requires no installation and will open on your
customers' computer simply by double clicking on the file.
In addition, it doesn't require any special plug-ins or
viewers, as it relies on your readers' browser.

Ebooks are completely interactive with the Internet and can
contain live links, graphics, forms, JavaScript, embedded
video, can be protected via password/userid, search
capabilities and more.

This self-contained executable file can be distributed in a
number of ways, including CD, floppy disk, and Internet
download.

How is an Ebook Created?

In order to create your ebook, you will need to invest in an
HTML compiler. An HTML compiler is a software program that
will compress all of your files, including HTML and images,
into one file that is in EXE format.

Although HTML compilers have provided Internet marketers
with an easy way to distribute their files, they don't
provide any additional assistance in creating your ebook.

What this means is that in order to use an HTML compiler,
you must first create your ebook files within another
program and then import the files into the compiler. This
option may not be an issue for veteran marketers. However,
for those new to the Internet there is a better option.

There is only one software program that will enable you to
create your entire ebook -- from start to finish within a
WYSIWYG ebook editor:

Using an Ebook as a Viral Marketing Tool

By Shelley Lowery

If you're looking for a simple way to put a portion of your
promotions on autopilot, creating a 'viral' ebook may be
your answer.

Ebooks are one of the most popular products online, as they
are not only very cheap and easy to create, but they also
provide people with instant gratification. Once they
complete their purchase, they can download their ebook in a
matter of minutes.

Putting Your Promotions on Autopilot

Ebooks are not only the 'perfect' online product, but
they're also the 'perfect' viral marketing tool. The term
'viral marketing' refers to a virus -- not a computer virus,
but a marketing strategy that spreads like a virus, which
can produce results.

When doing business on the Internet, in order to be
successful, you must continually promote your products and
services -- ebooks provide the perfect solution.

Ebooks will enable you to promote your products and/or
services automatically without any cost or effort on your
part.

Spreading the Marketing 'Virus'

If you've been on the Internet for a while, you have
probably been to some web sites that have given you a free
ebook. The ebook usually contains some helpful information
with regard to the subject and provides information about
the web site's products or services.

These sites aren't giving away this information just to be
kind to their visitors. They are giving it away to
significantly increase their sales.

The key to using an ebook as a viral marketing tool is to
write a short information packed ebook that identifies a
specific problem, provides some basic information to assist
your readers, and promotes your products and/or services as
the solution.

Although giving your visitors your promotional ebook is a
great start, that's not exactly going to provide you with a
wealth of free promotion. You need to take your strategy one
step further.

Encouraging Distribution

The key to using this technique successfully is to allow
your ebook to be freely distributed. In other words, you
give the ebook to your visitors and allow them to give it to
their visitors.

Although this will provide you with some additional
promotion, if you really want to create a viral marketing
machine, you need to give your visitors a reason to want to
distribute your ebook.

How? By enabling your readers to customize portions of your
ebook with their own information.

Here's how...

There are special software programs that will enable you to
create fields within your ebooks that may be customized by
your readers. This technology can be used in a number of
ways, including...

• Create a 'teaser' version of an ebook you're selling that
will encourage your reader to purchase the full version.
Create customizable affiliate links the reader can click on
to purchase your ebook. Allow your affiliates to freely
distribute it and earn commissions simply by giving your
ebook away.

• Create a catalog ebook that includes images and
descriptions of all of your products. Create customizable
affiliate links the reader can click on to purchase your
products. Or, include a purchase form that includes a
customizable field for your affiliates to place their ID and
enable your readers to purchase right through your ebook.

• Create a content rich ebook that will be used to generate
traffic to your web site. Your ebook should relate to your
web site and provide information about your site with links
throughout. Create special fields that will enable your
readers to customize your ebook with their company name,
linked web address, etc., and allow them to freely
distribute it.

• Create a 'how-to' ebook you can use as an incentive to
gain new subscribers. In order for your visitors to get a
copy of your ebook, they must subscribe to your publication.
Once they have subscribed, you can send them download
instructions within their welcome message. Create special
fields that will enable your readers to customize your ebook
with their company name, linked web address, etc., and allow
them to freely distribute it.

Selecting the 'Right' Ebook Software

Although there are many HTML compilers on the Internet, not
all will enable you to create customizable fields within
your ebooks. However, eBook Starter will.

eBook Starter uses a powerful branding system called,
variables. Variables are powerful little codes that can be
used within your eBooks for customization purposes. They
provide you with the ability to create customizable fields
within your ebooks that may be specified by your readers.
http://ClickBankNickname.wsnet.hop.clickbank.net/

Creating customizable ebooks is a great way to encourage
your visitors and/or affiliates to distribute your ebooks.
Why? Because there's something in it for them...

• They can make money by including their affiliate link
within the ebook
• They can increase traffic to their site by including their
web address within the ebook
• They can increase brand awareness by including their
company name

When you create your customizable ebooks with your visitors
and affiliates in mind, it's a win-win proposition that will
increase your ebook's distribution considerably.

Think about the possibilities...

10 of your visitors download your ebook
Your 10 visitors each give away 10 ebooks - 100
Those 100 each give away 10 ebooks - 1000
Those 1000 each give away 10 ebooks - 10,000
Those 10,000 each give away 10 ebooks - 100,000
Those 100,000 each give away 10 ebooks - 1,000,000

This is just a small example of how powerful your viral free
ebook can be. Your ebook will continue to work for you even
years down the road! Now that's viral marketing.
